Petäjävesi (pronounced pet-ah-yah-veh-see) is a small town, also called a municipality, in Finland. It is located in the middle part of Finland, near the city of Jyväskylä. Petäjävesi is famous for its beautiful nature and a very old church.
The municipality has about 3,596 people living there. It covers an area of about 495.41 square kilometres (191.28 sq mi). Almost 8% of this area is water, mostly lakes. Most people in Petäjävesi speak Finnish.
Petäjävesi shares borders with other towns like Jyväskylä, Jämsä, Keuruu, Multia, and Uurainen.
The Petäjävesi Old Church is a very special building. In 1994, UNESCO listed it as a World Heritage Site. This means it is an important place that needs to be protected for everyone to see. It shows how churches were built in Nordic countries a long time ago.
