Pete Edochie (born March 7, 1947) is a famous Nigerian actor. Many people consider him one of the most talented actors in Nigeria. He has won major awards for his work, including an Industry Merit Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Edochie first became well-known in the 1980s. He played the main character, Okonkwo, in a TV show based on the famous book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. This role made him a star.
Edochie is part of the Igbo people of Nigeria and is a Catholic. In 2003, the President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, gave him a special honor called the Member of the Order of the Niger.

Early Life and Schooling
Pete Edochie was born in Zaria, a city in Kaduna State, Nigeria, on March 7, 1947.
He went to St. Patrick's and St. James Primary School in Zaria. For his high school education, he attended St. John's College. Later, he traveled to England to study at the School of Journalism and Television.
Career in Radio and Film
Edochie started his career in radio in 1967 when he was 20 years old. He began as a junior programs assistant and worked his way up to become a director at the Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS).
He left his job in radio to focus on acting. His big break was playing Okonkwo in the TV series Things Fall Apart. His performance was so good that the BBC from England came to Nigeria to interview him about the role.
In 2005, the Actors Guild of Nigeria had a disagreement with Edochie and other top actors over their fees. This led to them being banned from making movies for one year.
Personal Life
Pete Edochie is married to Josephine Edochie, and they have six children together. Two of his sons, Linc and Yul Edochie, are also actors.
In 2009, Edochie was kidnapped but was later released safely.
He is also a supporter of sharing knowledge. In 2017, he appeared in a video for the Wikimedia movement in Nigeria. The video encouraged older people to use Wikipedia to learn new things.

Edochie has received many awards for his long career in acting. In 2020, he was given the African Film Legend award at the African Film Festival (TAFF).
