Peter Eddie Myers (born September 15, 1963) is a former American basketball player and coach. He played in the NBA. He is well-known for taking Michael Jordan's place on the Chicago Bulls when Jordan played baseball.

Pete Myers' Early Life and College Basketball

Pete Myers was born in Mobile, Alabama. He finished high school at Williamson High School in 1981.

College Basketball Journey

After high school, Myers went to Faulkner State Community College. There, he scored almost 14 points per game. He was also named to the All-Southern Division team in 1983.

In 1984, Myers moved to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He played for the Arkansas–Little Rock Trojans men's basketball team for two seasons. During his time there, he was named to the All-Trans America Athletic Conference (TAAC) team twice. His team also won the TAAC tournament in 1986. They even made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament.

Pete Myers' Professional Playing Career

Pete Myers had a long career playing professional basketball. He played for many teams in the NBA and other leagues.

Joining the Chicago Bulls

In the 1986 NBA draft, the Chicago Bulls picked Myers. He was the 120th player chosen overall. As a new player, he played in 29 games for the Bulls. He averaged 2.3 points per game.

Playing in Other Leagues

In 1987, Myers played for the Rockford Lightning in the CBA. He was chosen as a league All-Star. He also placed second in the CBA slam dunk contest.

Myers later played for the San Antonio Spurs in 1988. He then joined the Philadelphia 76ers. He also played in Spain for a team called Cai Zaragoza.

He signed with the New York Knicks in December 1988. He played for them for two seasons. Later, he joined the New Jersey Nets in 1990. He even started two games for the Nets, which were his first NBA starts.

Myers also played for teams in Italy, like Fortitudo Pallacanestro Bologna and Scavolini Pesaro. He averaged 16.1 points per game for Scavolini Pesaro.

Returning to the Chicago Bulls

Myers came back to the NBA in 1993. He signed with the Chicago Bulls again. This was a big moment because he took over as the starting shooting guard after Michael Jordan retired.

Myers played in all 82 regular season games that year. He started 81 of them. He had his best season averages with 7.9 points and 3.0 assists per game.

In March 1995, Michael Jordan decided to return to the NBA. Jordan took Myers' place in the Bulls' starting lineup.

Later NBA Teams

After his second time with the Bulls, Myers played for the Miami Heat and the Charlotte Hornets. He also played in Italy again for Polti Cantù in 1997.

He signed with the New York Knicks again in October 1997. After that, he played for the Rockford Lightning and the Quad City Thunder in the CBA. He finished his playing career in 1999.

After his playing days, Pete Myers became a basketball coach.

Assistant Coach for the Chicago Bulls

Myers joined the Chicago Bulls coaching staff in December 2001 as an assistant coach. He even became the interim head coach twice. This means he temporarily took over as head coach.

He was the interim head coach for two games in 2003. This happened when the head coach, Bill Cartwright, was fired. Myers went back to being an assistant coach when Scott Skiles became the new head coach.

In 2007, when Skiles was fired, Myers was again named interim head coach for one game. His total record as an interim head coach was 0 wins and 3 losses.

Coaching for Other Teams

Myers left the Bulls' coaching staff in 2010. He then worked in the Bulls' front office as a scout.

In 2011, he became an assistant coach for the Golden State Warriors. He worked under head coach Mark Jackson. In 2014, Myers and the rest of Jackson's staff left the Warriors.

Return to the Bulls

On June 25, 2015, Myers returned to the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach. He stayed with the team until May 23, 2019, when he left for personal reasons.
