Pete Lucas Nance (born February 19, 2000) is an American professional basketball player. He currently plays for the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also plays for the Delaware Blue Coats in the NBA G League on a special "two-way contract." Before becoming a pro, Pete played college basketball at Northwestern University and the University of North Carolina.

High School Basketball Journey

Pete Nance played basketball at Revere High School. When he was a senior, Pete was 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 205 pounds. That year, he helped his team win their first-ever district championship. He was also named the best player in Ohio Division II.

Pete decided to play college basketball for the Northwestern Wildcats men's basketball team starting in 2018. He chose Northwestern over offers from other big schools like the University of Michigan and the Ohio State University. Pete was considered a "four-star recruit," which means he was one of the top young players in the country. He was the highest-ranked player ever to join Northwestern's basketball program.

College Basketball Career

Playing for Northwestern

Pete Nance played his first college game for Northwestern against the McKendree Bearcats. He scored 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and made three blocks and four steals in just 19 minutes. In his first official college game, he scored three points and had one assist.

Pete started his first college game in a loss to the Michigan Wolverines. As a sophomore, he averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. In his junior year, he improved, averaging 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He missed one game due to an ankle injury.

As a senior, Pete averaged 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. After thinking about joining the 2022 NBA draft, Pete decided to stay in college and transferred to the University of North Carolina.

Pete transferred to North Carolina for his fifth year of college basketball. He was able to do this because of a special rule from the NCAA. This rule gave all student-athletes an extra year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic affecting sports seasons.

He immediately became a starter for the Tar Heels. Pete played in 30 games and started all of them. He averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game. He shot 42% from the field during his time at North Carolina.

Professional Basketball Career

Starting with the Cleveland Cavaliers

After the 2023 NBA draft, Pete Nance was not chosen by any team, which is called "going undrafted." However, he joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2023 NBA Summer League. In September 2023, he signed a contract with the Cavaliers.

Later, he was waived by the Cavaliers but then signed with the Cleveland Charge in the NBA G League. The G League is like a development league for the NBA.

On January 18, 2024, Pete signed a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers. This was special because he became the third person in his family to play for the Cavaliers. His father, Larry Nance, and his older brother, Larry Nance Jr., also played for the team. After his 10-day contract, he returned to the Cleveland Charge. On February 19, he signed a "two-way contract" with the Cavaliers. A two-way contract allows players to play for both an NBA team and its G League team.

In September 2024, Pete signed another standard contract with the Cavaliers but was waived again in October. He then rejoined the Cleveland Charge.

Moving to the Philadelphia 76ers

On December 3, 2024, Pete Nance signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he was waived by them in January 2025. Just a few days later, Pete returned to the Cleveland Charge. Then, on January 14, he signed another two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers.
