Pete Perry (born March 24, 1948) is an American who used to play basketball. He was known for being a great shot blocker. Pete played college basketball for the Pan American Broncs before trying to join the pros.

Pete Perry's College Basketball Journey

Pete Perry went to high school in Mississippi. He started his college basketball career at Utica Junior College. This school is now called Hinds Community College.

After two years, Pete moved to Pan American College. This college is now known as University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.

Setting New Records

As a junior, Pete Perry became famous for blocking shots. He set a school record with 96 blocks in one season. He also blocked 8 shots in a single game against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Later, he broke his own record by blocking 11 shots against the Lamar Cardinals.

In his senior year, Pete played in 26 games. He averaged over 20 points and nearly 15 rebounds per game. He also set a new school record with 120 blocked shots in that season.

Pete Perry is still the all-time leader in blocked shots for the Pan American Broncs. He had a total of 216 blocks during his college career. This is more than double the blocks of the player in second place. He also ranks eighth in career rebounds with 670.

Trying for the Pros

In 1973, Pete Perry was chosen by two professional basketball teams. The Los Angeles Lakers picked him in the second round of the 1973 NBA draft. The Virginia Squires also picked him in the 1973 ABA draft.

Pete signed with the Lakers in July 1973. However, he did not play any games for the team. In 1974, he signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent. But he was released before the season started. Pete Perry never played in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Pete Perry grew up in a big family. He was one of 14 children. His father was a reverend. Pete also had a stutter, which means he sometimes repeated sounds or words when he spoke.

Pete married Jacqui, who he met in college. Their son, Makeba, also played college basketball for the Tulane Green Wave.
