Peter Gabriel Burgoyne (born 29 January 1978) is a former professional Australian rules footballer. He played for the Port Adelaide Power in the Australian Football League (AFL). Peter was known for playing in the midfield and as a half-back player. He played 240 games and kicked 193 goals for Port Adelaide in the AFL.

Early Life and Family Connections
Peter Burgoyne has Indigenous Australian heritage. His family comes from the Kokatha people in South Australia. He grew up in the Northern Territory and started playing football there. His first team was St Mary's in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL).
Football runs in his family! His father, Peter Burgoyne Snr, also played for Port Adelaide. Peter's younger brother, Shaun Burgoyne, also became a famous AFL player. Shaun played for both Hawthorn and Port Adelaide.
AFL Career Highlights
Starting His Journey
Peter Burgoyne joined the Port Adelaide Power when they first entered the AFL in 1997. Before that, he played for the Port Adelaide team in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). He quickly became known as a strong attacking midfielder. He was great at getting the ball and moving it forward.
In a thrilling game in 2000 against Carlton, Peter kicked the winning goal. This happened right after the siren sounded, which is a very exciting way to win!
Big Wins and Special Awards
Peter was a very important player for Port Adelaide. He helped them win the AFL premiership in 2004. This was a huge achievement for the club and for Peter.
He also represented Australia in the International rules series in 1999. This is a special game played between Australian rules football players and Irish Gaelic football players. Peter was also honored by being named in the Indigenous Team of the Century. This team celebrates the best Indigenous Australian rules footballers from the past 100 years.
Changing Roles and Retirement
In 2007, Peter made a successful change to his playing position. He moved from the midfield to the half-back flank. Even though he had some injuries in 2006, he played very well in his new role. He finished third in his club's 'Best and Fairest' award that year. He also won the 'Best Finals Player' award for his great performance in the finals series.
Peter Burgoyne decided to retire from playing football at the end of the 2009 season. He and his teammate Brendon Lade were the last two players left from Port Adelaide's very first AFL team. They both played their final games in the last round of 2009.
