Peter Arnold Cronjé (born September 21, 1949 – died September 4, 2020) was a famous South African rugby player. He played as a centre, which is a key position in rugby. Cronjé was known for his skills on the field. He represented his country, South Africa, as a member of the national rugby team, the Springboks.

Peter Cronjé's Rugby Journey

Peter Cronjé started his rugby journey playing for a team called Transvaal. This was his provincial team, like a state team in other sports. He played for them from 1970 to 1976.

Playing for the Springboks

Cronjé made his first appearance for the Springboks in a special match called a "test debut." This happened against France on June 12, 1971. The game took place at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

In 1971, he traveled with the Springboks to Australia. He played in all three important test matches during that tour. A "test match" is a game between two national teams.

Tours and Key Matches

In 1972, Peter Cronjé went on another tour. This time, he was with a South African team for players under 24, called the Gazelles. They traveled to Argentina.

Later, in 1974, he played in two more important test matches. These were against the British Lions, a team made up of top players from the United Kingdom and Ireland. In the final match against the Lions, he scored his third try in a test game. Besides these test matches, Cronjé also played in eight other tour games, scoring two more tries.
