Peter William Harold Holland was born on August 17, 1963. He is a famous zoologist from Britain. A zoologist studies animals. Peter Holland's main work is about how different kinds of animals came to be. He looks at how changes in their genes (their "genome") explain this. He is currently a top professor of zoology at the University of Oxford. He is also a Fellow at Merton College, Oxford.

Peter Holland's Life and Career
Peter Holland studied Zoology at The Queen's College, which is part of the University of Oxford. He finished his first degree in 1984. After that, he earned a special degree called a doctorate in genetics in 1987. He got this degree from the National Institute for Medical Research.
Early Research and Professorship
After his studies, Peter Holland worked in several research jobs. One of these was a special research position from the Royal Society. In 1994, when he was only 30 years old, he became a Professor of Zoology. This was at the University of Reading.
Moving to Oxford University
In 2002, Peter Holland moved back to Oxford. He became a Fellow at Merton College. He was also named the 11th Linacre Professor of Zoology at the University of Oxford. This is a very important role. From 2011 to 2016, he was in charge of the Department of Zoology there. In 2003, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). This is a big honor for scientists in the UK.
Other Important Roles
Peter Holland has also helped lead important science groups. He was a Trustee for the Marine Biological Association for 20 years, from 1998 to 2018. He also led their research committee. In 2019, he became a Trustee of the Earlham Institute. By 2022, he became the chair of their board of trustees.
