Peter Kaiser, born on December 4, 1958, is an Austrian politician. He is a member of the Social Democratic Party. Since March 2013, he has been the governor of Carinthia, which is a state in Austria. He also leads the SPÖ Carinthia political party in Carinthia since March 2010.

Peter Kaiser's Early Life and Education
Peter Kaiser worked for the Carinthian state government from 1978 to 1987. During this time, he also studied sociology and education. He attended the University of Klagenfurt.
In 1988, he earned his Magister degree. Five years later, he completed his studies and became a doctor.
Peter Kaiser's Political Journey
Peter Kaiser began his political career in 1981. He became the leader of the Carinthian socialist youth group.
Early Roles in Carinthia
In 1986, he became a member of the Carinthian Gemeinderat. This is like a local council. He served in this role until 1989.
From 1989 to 1994, Kaiser was a member of the Carinthian Landtag. The Landtag is the state parliament. He also served there again in 1997 and from 2001 to July 2008.
From November 2005, he was the parliamentary leader for the SPÖ party in the Landtag. This means he led his party's group of lawmakers.
Becoming a State Official
In July 2008, Peter Kaiser took on a new role. He became a state consultant for health and sports. This meant he was in charge of these areas for the state.
In 2010, he became the chairman of the SPÖ Carinthia party. He took over from Reinhart Rohr. As chairman, he also became the second deputy governor. Beate Prettner then took over his previous role as state councilor.
Governor of Carinthia
On March 3, 2013, the SPÖ became the largest party in Carinthia again. This happened after the 2013 Carinthian state election. Peter Kaiser was their main candidate.
After the election, the Carinthian Landtag voted for him. He was elected governor with 30 out of 36 votes. He took over from Gerhard Dörfler of the Freedom Party.
In his first speech as governor, Kaiser spoke some words in Slovenian. This is the second main language in the region. He was the first Carinthian head of government to do this. On April 2, 2013, Federal President Heinz Fischer officially swore him in as governor.
Re-election as Governor
In the 2018 Carinthian state election, the SPÖ grew even stronger. They gained 10.8 percent more votes with Kaiser as their top candidate.
On April 16, 2018, President Alexander Van der Bellen officially confirmed him in his position. This meant he continued to serve as governor.
Peter Kaiser's Personal Life
Peter Kaiser was married to Larissa Krainer. They have one son together.
Outside of politics, Kaiser has also been involved in other activities. He has supported the Carinthian Volleyball union. He also worked with the Jugendherbergswesen, which is like Hostelling International.
