Peter Schöttel (born 26 March 1967) is a former Austrian football player and coach. He is now a sports expert for Sky Austria.

Playing Career Highlights
A Legend at Rapid Wien
Peter Schöttel played his entire club career for Rapid Wien. He was a very popular player with the fans. He even became the team's captain from 1997 to 2001.
During his time with Rapid Wien, Peter helped his team win several important titles. They won the Austrian league championship three times. They also won the Austrian Cup twice.
European Final and Special Recognition
In 1996, Peter Schöttel played in a big European final. This was the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final against Paris St Germain. Rapid Wien lost the match, but it was still a huge achievement to reach the final.
In 1999, Peter was honored by his club. He was chosen as a member of Rapid Wien's "Team of the Century." This shows how important he was to the club's history. After he stopped playing, Rapid Wien even retired his jersey number, 5, for a few years. This was a special way to show respect for his amazing career.

Playing for Austria
Peter Schöttel also played for the Austrian national team. He made his first appearance for Austria in February 1988. He played as a defender for his country.
He represented Austria in two major tournaments. These were the 1990 FIFA World Cup and the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Playing in the World Cup is a dream for many footballers. Peter played 62 matches for his country. His last official international match was in 2002. He played for a few minutes in a friendly game against Norway to mark his retirement from international football.
Coaching and Management Roles
From Player to Coach
After finishing his playing career, Peter Schöttel started coaching. He first worked with the Rapid Wien amateur team. He stayed with the club in different roles until 2006.
Later, he took on coaching jobs at other clubs. In 2007, he coached Wiener Sport-Club. In December 2009, he became the manager of SC Wiener Neustadt, another club in the Austrian league.
Returning to Rapid Wien
In 2011, Peter Schöttel returned to his beloved club, Rapid Wien, as their manager. He coached the team until April 2013. After that, he also coached Grödig.
Since 2017, Peter Schöttel has been working as the sporting director for the Austrian national team. In this role, he helps manage the team and its development.
