Club History

Wiener neustadt Performance Graph
This chart shows how the team performed in different leagues over the years.

A New Beginning

The club got its start in a very interesting way. In 2008, another team called SC Schwanenstadt had to stop playing because of money problems. A new group, led by the famous businessman Frank Stronach, took over their license. This meant they could start a new club, FC Magna Wiener Neustadt, and play in Austria's second-highest league, the First League.

The team played its first-ever league game on July 12, 2008, against FC Wacker Innsbruck. Even though they lost that first match 0–3, the rest of the season was a huge success. By the end, they had won the league championship! This amazing victory earned them a promotion to the Austrian Bundesliga, the top football league in Austria.

Name Changes and Partnerships

In late 2008, the club decided to merge with an older local team, 1. Wiener Neustädter SC. To honor the history of the older club, the team changed its name to SC Magna Wiener Neustadt in July 2009.

Later, in 2010, the club started working together with another major Austrian team, SK Sturm Graz. These kinds of partnerships help clubs share resources and players.
