Peter Weck (born August 12, 1930) is a famous Austrian film director and actor. He has been in many movies and TV shows, acting in over 130 productions from 1954 to 2015. He also directed more than 50 shows and films between 1969 and 2007.

Peter Weck's Life and Career

Peter Weck studied acting at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He also attended the Max Reinhardt Seminar, a well-known acting school. His first movie role was in 1954.

Early Acting Roles

In 1955, Peter Weck played a supporting role in the historical drama Sissi. He acted alongside the famous actress Romy Schneider. After this, he often played funny and romantic characters in light-hearted movies.

He also appeared in international films. For example, he was the choir conductor Max Heller in the music film Almost Angels (1962). He also played Romy Schneider's husband in the big drama The Cardinal (1963). In the 1980s, Peter Weck starred as the dad in the German TV comedy series Ich heirate eine Familie (which means I Marry a Family).

Becoming a Director

Peter Weck started directing movies and TV shows in the late 1960s. His first directing job was the comedy film Help, I Love Twins. He directed many episodes of his own TV show, Ich heirate eine Familie. He also directed some episodes of the popular crime series Tatort.

He was also very successful as a stage director. He worked for several theaters that are part of the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien organization. Peter Weck helped start this organization in 1987.

Work in Musicals

As a Theater manager in Vienna during the 1980s, he brought famous musicals to German-speaking audiences. He was in charge of the first German-language shows of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats and The Phantom of the Opera. In 1992, he also produced the very first show of the musical Elisabeth.
