Petersburg, sometimes also spelled "Petersburgh", is a small place in Carroll County, Ohio, United States. It's called an unincorporated community, which means it's not a city or town with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Union Township.

Petersburg is located near the North Fork McGuire Creek and State Route 332. People living here get their mail through the Carrollton post office, using ZIP code 44615. This community is also considered part of the larger Canton and Massillon area.

The Story of Petersburg

Petersburg was officially planned and laid out on September 23, 1867. Two people, Joseph Ton and Cornelius Bracken, helped create the community. For a while, it even had its own post office, which was called Algonquin.

One of the most important places in Petersburg's history was the Petersburg Mill. It was also known as the Algonquin Mill. This mill used the power of the creek to grind grain from 1826 until 1880. After that, it switched to using steam power and continued to operate until 1938. Because of its long history and importance, the mill was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 20, 1970.

Today, the Carroll County Historical Society holds a fun event called the Algonquin Mill Festival every autumn. It's a great way to learn about the history of the mill and the area.
