Peterstown is a small town located in Monroe County, West Virginia, in the United States. In 2020, about 456 people lived there.
The town got its name from Christian Peters, who was one of the first settlers in the area. Peterstown is also famous for a special discovery. In 1928, a large diamond called the Jones Diamond was found here by Grover C. Jones and his son, William "Punch" Jones. This diamond weighed 34.48 carats, which is about 6.896 grams!
Geography
Peterstown is located at 37°23′55″N 80°47′42″W / 37.398638°N 80.795102°W. It sits right on the border with the state of Virginia. The town is directly across Rich Creek from a place called Midway, Giles County, Virginia.
The United States Census Bureau says that Peterstown covers a total area of about 0.32 square miles (0.82 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.

In 2020, the population of Peterstown was 456 people. This makes it one of the smaller towns in West Virginia.
