Phil Mack, born on September 18, 1985, in Victoria, British Columbia, is a well-known Canadian rugby player and coach. He played as a scrum-half for the Seattle Seawolves in Major League Rugby (MLR). Phil also proudly represented the Canada national rugby union team. He even coached the Seawolves to a championship win in 2018!

Phil started his rugby journey at Oak Bay Secondary School in his hometown, which has a strong rugby history. He also played for the BC Bears in Canada.

Phil Mack's career in rugby has been exciting, from playing for his country to coaching championship teams.

Playing for Canada

Phil made his first appearance for Team Canada in 2009. He was an important part of the Canadian squad that played in the 2015 Rugby World Cup. This is a huge international tournament for rugby.

In 2020, Phil played his last two games for Canada in the Pacific Nations Cup tournament. His final game was against South Africa, marking his 59th time playing for his country.

Playing in Major League Rugby

In 2013, Phil signed a short-term contract to play for the Ospreys, a professional rugby team.

In 2018, Phil joined the Seattle Seawolves for the very first season of Major League Rugby (MLR). He was a player and also the head coach! He played as the starting scrum-half, helping his team win the first-ever MLR Shield trophy. They won the championship against the Glendale Raptors.

In 2019, Phil continued with the Seawolves as a player and became a full-time backs coach. He helped the team win another MLR Shield trophy, making them back-to-back champions!

Coaching Career

After his playing career, Phil continued to coach. He started as an assistant coach for the Seawolves.

In 2020, the MLR season was stopped because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to budget cuts, Phil left the team for the next season.

Since then, Phil has continued to coach. He was an assistant coach for the Pacific Pride rugby team and later became their head coach. As of 2024, he is the attack coach for the Canada Sr. Men's team.

Phil Mack's Personal Life

Phil Mack is a member of the Toquaht First Nation, which is one of the Indigenous communities in Canada. He cares deeply about his community.

He started an organization called Thunder Rugby. This program helps promote rugby within the Indigenous community on Vancouver Island. It's a great way to get more young people involved in the sport.

In 2020, Phil and his wife, Becky, welcomed their baby boy, Tate Joseph, into their family.
