Phoenix, Alberta facts for kids
Phoenix is a place in west-central Alberta, Canada, that used to be a busy community. It's located between the towns of Nordegg and Rocky Mountain House.
The Story of Phoenix
Phoenix was once a community where people worked in coal mines. Coal mining was a big industry in this part of Alberta a long time ago.
A Sawmill and Railway Ties
Besides mining, there was also a sawmill near Phoenix in the 1920s. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This sawmill was run by the Burrows Lumber Company. They used the wood to make "railway ties." Railway ties are the strong wooden beams that support train tracks.
Over time, the community became less active. Now, Phoenix is considered a "ghost town." This means most people have moved away, and it's no longer a busy place.
