Phylicia George's Sports Journey
Running and Hurdles
Phylicia started her Olympic journey in track and field. She is a specialist in the 100-meter hurdles race. This is a sprint where athletes jump over ten barriers.
In 2011, Phylicia competed at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. She made it all the way to the final race. The next year, she made her first Olympic appearance at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England. She finished in sixth place in the 100-meter hurdles. She had earned her spot in London by finishing second in the hurdles at the Canadian Championships. She even won the 100-meter sprint there the day before!
Phylicia was also part of Canada's Olympic team for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles final with a time of 12.89 seconds.
Switching to Bobsleigh
In November 2016, Phylicia decided to try a new sport: bobsleigh! This is a winter sport where teams slide down an icy track in a special sled. It's very fast and exciting.
She quickly became very good at it. In December 2017, she made her World Cup debut. She finished fourth with her teammate, Kaillie Humphries. Just a month later, on January 6, 2018, she won her first World Cup race in Altenberg, Germany, again with Kaillie Humphries.
Her biggest bobsleigh achievement came at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Phylicia and Kaillie Humphries won the bronze medal in the two-woman bobsleigh event! This was an incredible achievement, showing her talent in two very different sports.
