A Look Back in Time
After the Spanish–American War, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898. Because of this, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States.
In 1899, the United States government did a count of all the people in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. The census showed that 841 people lived in the Piñas barrio at that time.
How Piñas is Divided

The types of sectores can be different. Some are just called sector, while others might be named urbanización (like a housing development), reparto, barriada, or residencial.
