His Education Journey

Pierre-André Chiappori went to school in Paris, France. From 1974 to 1979, he studied at the École normale supérieure. This is a very famous school in France.

During those years, he also attended other universities in Paris. He earned degrees in different subjects. These included mathematics, statistics, and economics. In 1981, he completed his Ph.D. in economics. He received this top degree from the Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne.

His Career in Economics

Mr. Chiappori started his teaching career at the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University. This was the same university where he earned his Ph.D. Later, in 1985, he became a senior lecturer. This was at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences.

He then worked at the CNRS. He also taught at the École Polytechnique. In 1992, he became a full professor of economics. This was at the ENSAE, while also doing research for the CNRS.

In 1997, he moved to the United States. He became a professor at the University of Chicago. Then, in 2005, he joined Columbia University. He is still a professor there today.

Important Roles and Honors

Mr. Chiappori has helped lead many important academic journals. He was an editor for the Review of Economics of the Household. He also worked on the Journal of Political Economy. Another journal he edited was the Journal of the European Economic Association.

His work in economics has been recognized with many honors. In 1995, he was chosen as a Fellow of the Econometric Society. This is a big honor for economists. He also became a Fellow of the European Economic Association in 2004. In 2015, he was made a Fellow of the Society for the Advancement of Economic Theory.

In Monaco, he has also played key roles. Since 2011, he has led the scientific council. This council helps guide the Monegasque Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies. He was also on the advisory board for the International University of Monaco. On March 18, 2024, the Prince of Monaco chose him for a very important job. He was appointed as the Counsellor of Finance and Economy.
