Pierre Kwenders is known for mixing different music styles. He blends African music with Western pop music, including hip hop and electronic music. Early Career and First Albums
Pierre Kwenders moved to Canada with his mother when he was a teenager. He first became well-known in 2012. This was when he sang on the album Havre de Grace by the band Radio Radio.
In 2013, he released two shorter music collections called EPs (Extended Plays). These were Whiskey & Tea and African Dream. An EP usually has fewer songs than a full album. In 2014, he released his first full-length album, Le Dernier empereur bantou. He then went on a tour across Canada in 2015 to share his new music.
Collaborations and Awards
His song "Mardi Gras" was created with Jacques Alphonse "Jacobus" Doucet from Radio Radio. This song was nominated for the 2015 SOCAN Songwriting Prize. This prize celebrates great songwriting in Canada.
In 2015, Pierre Kwenders also worked with another artist named Boogat. They created a song called "Londres" for Boogat's album Neo-Reconquista.
His second full album, Makanda at the End of Space, the Beginning of Time, came out in 2017. This album was also a finalist for the Polaris Music Prize in 2018.
Recent Success
In 2018, Pierre Kwenders tried acting for the first time. He appeared in a film.
He continued to make music and achieved a big win in 2022. His album José Louis and the Paradox of Love won the Polaris Music Prize. This award is given to the best Canadian album of the year based on its artistic merit.
