Earning Michelin Stars
For many years, Pierre Wynants' restaurant, Comme chez Soi, was one of the best. It earned three Michelin stars. These stars are like special awards that show how excellent a restaurant is. He kept these three stars from 1979 until 2006. This is a very big achievement in the cooking world.
A New Project and a Rule
In 2004, Chef Wynants helped create the menu for a new place called Ostend Queen. This restaurant was mentioned in the 2005 Benelux edition of the Michelin Guide. The guide gave it a good review. However, there was a small problem. The Ostend Queen restaurant had not actually opened its doors yet when the guide was published.
The Michelin Guide has strict rules. They usually only review restaurants that are already open and serving customers. Because of this, the company that makes the guide decided to take back all the copies of that year's guide. This showed how important it is to follow the rules of the famous guide.
Passing the Torch
In 2007, Pierre Wynants decided it was time to let someone else lead Comme chez Soi. He passed control of the restaurant to his son-in-law, Lionel Rigolet. This allowed the restaurant's legacy of great food to continue.
