The Story of Pillow
Pillow was first started in 1818 by a man named John Snyder. He was a land developer. The town was first known as "Snydertown."
Later, in 1864, the town officially became a separate municipality. It was named "Uniontown" at that time.
When the town got its first post office in 1847, there were already other towns named "Snydertown" and "Uniontown." A postal official decided to call the new post office "Pillow." This name came from General Gideon Johnson Pillow, a military leader who was well-known for his victories in the Mexican–American War.
Over many years, people started using the name "Pillow" more often for the town. Finally, in 1965, the people living there voted to officially change the town's name to "Pillow."
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Pillow had many different businesses. These included a cotton mill, a factory that made burial vaults, a brick factory, and a potato chip factory. Today, the main business in Pillow is the Codi case factory.
