"Pillows and Blankets" is the fourteenth episode of the third season of the American TV show Community. It's known for being filmed like a serious documentary, even though it's about a silly pillow and blanket fort war! The episode first aired on April 5, 2012, on NBC.

The Great Fort War Begins

This episode is told like a serious documentary, similar to The Civil War. It shows how a small argument about pillows and blankets turned into a huge war at Greendale Community College.

The trouble starts when Star-Burns, who is on Abed's team (Pillowtown), throws a pillow. It hits one of Troy's team's (Blanketsburg) forts, and the fort falls apart. This causes a big pillow fight in the study hall.

Dean Pelton, the school's dean, wants Troy and Abed to make up. He asks Jeff to help them build one giant fort. This fort would be so amazing it could even get into the Guinness World Records book!

At a meeting, Troy gives Abed an "all-tomato." This is like a final demand. Troy says Abed must tear down his pillow fort to make room for Troy's blanket fort, or else. Abed says no to this demand. So, at midnight, Troy's Blanketsburg team attacks a fort made by Pillowtown. Troy then officially declares war on Pillowtown.

Battles and Broken Friendships

Jeff secretly wants the war to keep going. This is because if the war continues, he won't have to go to his classes. So, he gives both teams inspiring speeches to keep the fight alive.

Annie, who is helping treat the "injured" players, finds out about Jeff's plan. She gets upset and tells him off. She reminds him that Troy and Abed's friendship is very important and is now at risk.

Later, Pierce gets hurt by a member of Pillowtown. He then gives Abed some secret plans for a "doomsday device." This device is meant to win the war.

When Troy learns about Abed's plan, he gets Ben Chang involved. Chang brings in his "security force," which is a group of teenagers he hired earlier. They start winning the battle against Pillowtown.

Abed then uses his "doomsday device." It turns out to be Pierce, dressed in a full-body pillow suit, attacking the teenagers! Abed then sends an email to his Pillowtown team. The email lists all of Troy's silly habits, like getting distracted by shiny things or suddenly crying.

Troy's team, Blanketsburg, has a hacker who intercepts this message. When Troy reads it, he sends a text message back to Abed. He writes, "You may be my best friend, but I'll be your LAST friend." He also says that no one else will be patient enough to deal with Abed's quirks.

Jeff hears about their arguing and tries to set up another meeting for peace. But Abed and Troy decide that whoever wins the war gets to stay in their apartment. The loser has to move out.

The End of the War

The next morning, a huge battle takes place in the cafeteria. The fight finally stops when Dean Pelton makes an announcement. He says that the person from Guinness World Records who was supposed to visit got fired.

With the record attempt canceled, the war ends without a clear winner. Everyone is tired and just walks away. But Abed and Troy keep pillow fighting, even after everyone else leaves. They tell Jeff that this will be the last thing they ever do together.

Jeff then tells them that their continued fighting actually shows how much they like each other. He says they are willing to beat each other with pillows forever. He then gives Abed and Troy "imaginary friend hats." He had given them these hats before, but they had thrown them away.

Abed and Troy put on the hats and become friends again. Jeff then reveals that he actually went to the Dean's office and searched for the hats. This shows that he truly cares about his friends, even if he sometimes acts like he doesn't.

During the war, Britta tries to take pictures of everything happening. But she messes up almost every photo. The only good picture she takes is the final one, showing Abed and Troy becoming friends again. The narrator, played by Keith David, explains that Britta was trying to photograph light reflecting off waffles. She took her one good picture completely by accident!
