Scientists first found this lily in 1996. They officially named it E. taylorii in 1997. There are at least 1,000 of these plants in the only known group. It likes to grow on shady cliffs that face north.

What is the Pilot Ridge Fawn Lily?

The Pilot Ridge fawn lily grows from a round underground bulb, a few centimeters wide. It has wavy leaves up to 35 centimeters (about 14 inches) long. Its green stem can grow up to 40 centimeters (about 16 inches) tall. Each stem holds 1 to 8 beautiful, hanging lily flowers.

Each flower has six petal-like parts called tepals. They are shaped like spears and can be over 4 centimeters (about 1.5 inches) long. They are white with bright yellow centers. As they get older, they turn a soft pink. Inside, there are six long yellow stamens. These stamens have large white tips called anthers.
