Pinetown is a small community in Sussex County, Delaware, United States. It's not an official town with its own government, which is why it's called an unincorporated community. You can find Pinetown on Sweet Briar Road, close to Red Mill Pond. It's located southwest of a larger town called Lewes.
Pinetown's Story: A Look Back
Around 1965, Pinetown was a very small place with only about 75 people living there.
In 1997, a newspaper article shared some interesting facts about Pinetown. It was noted that the community was mostly made up of African-American families. It was also in a somewhat isolated area. At that time, about 250 people lived in Pinetown. However, there were no businesses or bus services available in the community itself. Many residents of Pinetown were related, often descended from a group of eight siblings. Most of the homes in the community were mobile homes. Children living in Pinetown had to travel to schools in other towns to get their education.
Just three years later, in 2000, another newspaper article from the Wilmington News Journal estimated the population had changed to about 150 people. In 2006, the people of Pinetown worked together through the Pinetown Civic Association to build a brand new community center. This center helps bring people together. Later, in 2015, a special group from the Delaware Housing Commission teamed up with the Pinetown Civic Association. Their goal was to bring more improvements and resources to the Pinetown community.

Pinetown is about 7 miles (11 km) west of Lewes. It is also about 2 miles (3 km) east of another town called Harbeson.
