The name first appeared on maps of the area way back in 1873.
How Pingrup Began: A Railway Town
Pingrup officially became a town in 1924. It grew because of the railway! In 1923, the railway line from Nyabing was extended to this area. This made Pingrup the end point, or "terminus," of the railway. Having a railway made it much easier to transport goods and people, helping the town to grow and become an important local center.
