Pisgah, Missouri facts for kids
Pisgah is a small, unincorporated community located in Cooper County, Missouri, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government.
This community is found about two miles west of Pisgah Creek, which is a smaller stream that flows into Moniteau Creek. You can find Pisgah along Missouri Route O. It's about eleven miles north-northwest of a city called California. Another nearby place, Bunceton, is about eight miles to the west on Missouri Route J.
A Look Back: Pisgah's History
Pisgah was officially mapped out, or platted, in the year 1830. This means that its streets and property lots were planned and recorded. The community got its name from a local Baptist church that was also called Pisgah.
The name "Pisgah" actually comes from a very old place mentioned in the Bible: Mount Pisgah. This mountain is known for being a place where Moses saw the Promised Land.
A post office was opened in Pisgah in 1848. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years, but it eventually closed down in 1910.
