Pittsburg is a small village located in Williamson County, Illinois. It is part of the United States. In 2020, about 565 people lived in Pittsburg.
History of Pittsburg
Pittsburg was started in 1906. It began as a place for a coal mining business. A man named John Carp, who was a coal businessman, founded the village. He named it after Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He hoped that Pittsburg, Illinois, would become as successful and busy as the larger city in Pennsylvania.
Many of the streets in Pittsburg were also named after places in Pennsylvania. Some examples include Scranton Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue. A post office opened in the village in 1907, helping the community grow.
