Pittsburg is a ghost town located in Seward County, Nebraska, in the United States. A ghost town is a place where people used to live and work, but now it's mostly empty.

The Story of Pittsburg

The town of Pittsburg was started in 1873. People hoped to find a lot of valuable peat there. Peat is a type of soil made from old, decayed plants. It can be used as fuel, like wood or coal. However, the town was soon left empty. This happened because the peat was not as valuable or plentiful as everyone thought.

It is believed that the person who founded the town might have wanted to name it "Peatsburg" instead of Pittsburg. This would have made more sense, given the focus on peat. A post office was open in the area for a short time, from 1873 to 1875. It was spelled "Pittsburgh" with an "h" at the end.
