Special Pizza Deals
Pizza for Pesos Campaign
In January 2007, Pizza Patrón started a special deal called "Pizza por Pesos." For a short time, customers could pay for their pizzas using Mexican pesos. This was not the first time a company in the U.S. accepted pesos. However, it happened when there was a lot of talk about immigration.
The company's office in Dallas received many complaints. But the promotion also brought a lot of attention to the chain. News channels like Fox News and shows like The Colbert Report talked about it. After the first week, one owner said customers paid with about 15,000 pesos. This was about US$1,400 and made up 20% of his sales.
On May 3, 2007, Pizza Patrón announced good news. Sales in the first three months of 2007 went up by 35%. This was compared to the same time in 2006. The company said the "Pizza for Pesos" campaign helped a lot. They decided to make accepting pesos a permanent policy.
Pizza por Favor Promotion
On June 6, 2012, Pizza Patrón launched another special deal. It was called "Pizza por Favor." Customers could get a free large pepperoni pizza. All they had to do was order in Spanish by saying "Pizza Por Favor."
This event also caused some discussion. Some groups did not like the idea. On the day the promotion was announced, Pizza Patrón's email servers were hacked. But the company received news coverage from all over the world. They gave away 80,000 pizzas during the one-day event. This included 50,000 pizzas during the advertised three hours. They also gave 30,000 coupons to people still waiting in line.
