How Pizza Patrón Started
Pizza Patrón was founded in 1986 by Antonio Swad and Bernadette Fiaschetti. Antonio Swad has a background from Lebanon and Italy. He is also known for starting another popular restaurant brand called Wingstop. He sold Wingstop in 2003 to focus more on Pizza Patrón. Bernadette Fiaschetti, who has Italian and Irish roots, also helped start Wingstop. She now hosts a radio show.
Growing and Changing the Brand
Pizza Patrón has worked to grow and update its brand over the years. In 2007, the company saw a big increase in sales, up 35% compared to the previous year. This growth was partly due to news stories about their special promotions.
In 2018, Pizza Patrón updated its brand to attract younger customers. This change included a new logo. To make ordering easier, the company also launched a mobile app at the end of March 2020, allowing customers to order online.
Fun Promotions and Campaigns
Pizza Patrón has become well-known for some unique promotions that got a lot of attention.
Pizza for Pesos
In January 2007, Pizza Patrón announced a special offer called "Pizza por Pesos." This allowed customers to pay for their pizzas using Mexican pesos for a short time. This idea was not completely new in the United States, but it happened during a time when there was a lot of discussion about immigration. The promotion received a lot of media attention from news channels and TV shows.
After the first week, one restaurant owner shared that customers had paid with about 15,000 Mexican pesos, which was around US$1,400, at his two shops in Southern California. This made up about 20% of his profits. Because it was so popular, the company decided to make the policy of accepting pesos a permanent option.
Pizza for Favor
On June 6, 2012, Pizza Patrón launched another fun promotion called "Pizza por Favor." During this event, customers could get a free large pepperoni pizza just by ordering in Spanish. All they had to say was "Pizza Por Favor."
This event also created a lot of buzz and was covered by news outlets around the world. Pizza Patrón gave away 80,000 pizzas during this one-day promotion. This included 50,000 pizzas given out during the advertised three-hour window and another 30,000 free pizza coupons for people who were still waiting in line after the supplies ran out or the business hours ended.
