The Placer County Big Trees Grove is a special place in California. It is a small group of huge trees called giant sequoias. You can find this grove along Mosquito Ridge Road, near the American River in the Tahoe National Forest.
This grove is unique because it's the northernmost group of giant sequoias. It's also the furthest away from other sequoia groves. The grove has six very old giant sequoia trees. Two of these trees are super big! These amazing trees grow in a small, bowl-shaped area. A small creek flows through it when there's enough water. Good news: this grove has never been cut down for wood. Four of the six trees are named after brave soldiers from World War I.
Meet the Giant Trees
The Placer County Big Trees Grove is home to some truly impressive trees. Here are two of the most famous ones:
- The Joffre Tree: This tree is the tallest in the grove. It is also the second largest tree there.
- The Pershing Tree: This is the biggest tree in the grove! It measures about 3.66 m (12.0 ft) across its base. That's wider than a car!
