Placy was once a small village, known as a commune, located in northwestern France. It was part of the Calvados area, which is a department (like a county) in the Normandy region (a larger area).

On January 1, 2019, Placy joined with other nearby villages to form a new, larger commune called Cesny-les-Sources. This means Placy is no longer a separate commune on its own.

Where Was Placy?

Placy was situated in the beautiful countryside of Normandy. This region is famous for its green fields, apple orchards, and historical sites. The village was located not far from the city of Caen.

Placy's Population Story

The number of people living in a place is called its population. Over the years, the population of Placy changed. Knowing the population helps us understand how a village grows or shrinks.

Here is a look at how many people lived in Placy at different times:

Historical population
Year Pop. ±%
1962 121 —
1968 112 −7.4%
1975 106 −5.4%
1982 96 −9.4%
1990 107 +11.5%
1999 125 +16.8%
2008 131 +4.8%

You can see that in 1962, there were 121 people. The population went down for a while, reaching 96 people in 1982. Then, it started to grow again, reaching 131 people by 2008. In 2019, when Placy merged, its population was recorded as 151 people.

Life in a French Commune

A commune is the smallest local government area in France. It's like a town or village with its own mayor and local council. Even though Placy is now part of a bigger commune, its history and the lives of its residents are still important. Villages like Placy are often quiet places with strong community ties.
