The plains brown tree frog (Litoria paraewingi) is a small frog that lives in Australia. People also call it the plain tree frog or Victoria frog. You can find this frog in southern Australia, especially in Victoria and New South Wales. It lives just north of the city of Melbourne.

What Does It Look Like?

This frog is usually a pale brown color. It has a special stripe that goes from its nose, over its eyes, and down its body. Parts of its legs are a pale yellow or orange.

Adult male plains brown tree frogs are about 2.1 to 2.8 centimeters long. Adult females are a bit bigger, growing to about 3.4 to 3.6 centimeters long. It looks very much like another frog called the brown tree frog.

Where Does It Live?

The plains brown tree frog can live in different places. It likes both forests and open grasslands. These frogs prefer to live near water that is still or moves very slowly. This includes places like creeks, ditches, lakes, and calm parts of rivers.

Reproduction and Family

These frogs lay their eggs on plants that are underwater.

The plains brown tree frog is very closely related to the brown tree frog. They are so similar that they can sometimes have babies together in the wild. This does not happen very often. Scientists have studied these mixed-breed frogs. They found that it was usually male plains brown tree frogs mating with female brown tree frogs.
