History of Plainville
Plainville was first settled in 1822 by Samuel Stone. Because of him, the area was originally known as Stone's Prairie.
A big political event happened here in 1860 during the presidential election campaign. About 7,000 people gathered for a rally. This led to something called the "Stone's Prairie Riot" on August 25, 1860. During this event, a group supporting the Republican Party, called the "Wide Awakes", had a confrontation with supporters of the Democratic Party.
