What is La Plaquita?
La Plaquita is a lively game played by two teams. Each team has two players. The main goal is to score points by running between two special spots called "wickets." In La Plaquita, these wickets are usually old license plates, which are called "placas" in Spanish. That's where the game gets its name!
The Equipment You Need
To play La Plaquita, you don't need much.
- Placas: You'll need two license plates to use as wickets. These are set up a good distance apart.
- Ball: A tennis ball or any similar bouncy ball works well.
- Bat: Players often use a stick, a piece of wood, or even a broom handle as a bat.
How to Play La Plaquita
The game is simple but exciting!
- Teams and Roles: One team bats, and the other team bowls and fields. The batting team tries to score points, while the fielding team tries to get the batters "out."
- Setting Up: The two "placas" (wickets) are placed on the ground, facing each other. One player from the batting team stands in front of one placa with a bat. A player from the fielding team stands near the other placa, ready to throw the ball.
- Scoring Runs: The fielding player throws the ball towards the batter's placa. The batter tries to hit the ball. If they hit it, both players on the batting team run between the two placas. Each time they run from one placa to the other and back, they score a point, called a "run."
- Getting Out: The fielding team tries to stop the batters from scoring. If the bowler hits the batter's placa with the ball, or if a fielder picks up the ball and hits a placa while the batting players are running and not touching a placa, the batter is "out." Once a player is out, the other player on their team takes their turn. If both players on a team are out, it's the other team's turn to bat.
