Playas, officially known as General Villamil Playas, is a city located on the coast of Ecuador. It is part of the Guayas province. Playas is the main city of Playas Canton, which was created in 1989.
In 2022, about 48,156 people lived in Playas. The city is named after General José de Villamil, a hero who helped Ecuador become independent. Playas is a popular place for tourists and is about 96 kilometers (60 miles) from Guayaquil.

The main way Playas makes money is through tourism. There are many hotels and resorts where visitors can stay. The area has several famous beaches, including:

Fishing and Food

Playas is also home to the Gómez Rendón Military Academy. This is a school where young people train to become part of the military.
