Plazma (pronounced Plaz-ma) is a super popular brand of soft biscuits. These yummy treats are owned by a company called Bambi A.D. in Serbia. Plazma biscuits first came out in 1967. They were made to be a tasty and affordable choice for everyone. Outside of Serbia, especially in Western Europe and the Americas, you might know them as "Lane" biscuits.
History
The story of how Plazma biscuits began is quite interesting! One version says that a baker named Petar Tutavac (1934–2022) used to work for an Italian biscuit company. When he lost his job, he decided to go back to his hometown of Požarevac in Serbia. There, he helped start the food company Bambi a.d. and create the famous Plazma biscuits in 1967. They were called "Lane" outside of former Yugoslavia to avoid any legal issues with other companies.
However, the founder of Bambi, Momčilo Filipović, shared a different story. He wanted to turn a wheat mill in Leskovac into a biscuit factory. The city preferred to focus on its traditional textile industry. So, after a lot of talks, Bambi was set up in Požarevac. Petar Tutavac, who was a master-baker from a small factory in Croatia, joined the team. He later became the technical director.
Varieties
