Bambi a.d. (Serbian Cyrillic: Бамби а.д.) is a well-known food company. It is located in the town of Požarevac, Serbia. One of its most famous products is a biscuit called Plazma. Outside of former Yugoslavia, this biscuit is also known as Lane. Currently, Coca-Cola HBC Serbia owns Bambi.
In 1968, Bambi started making their famous Plazma biscuit. It was inspired by another biscuit called Plasmon. Plasmon tried to sue Bambi for copying their recipe. However, Bambi won the case. A technologist named Milos Reljin changed the recipe. He also made the biscuit a different weight. This led to a special agreement between the two companies. Plasmon would not sell in Yugoslavia. Bambi's Plazma would be sold as "Lane" in Western countries.
History of Bambi
Bambi was started in 1967. Momčilo Filipović and Petar Tutavac helped create it. The company wanted to make biscuits from local grains. They focused on healthy food. In its first ten years, Bambi had 230 full-time workers. They made 3,100 tons of products. In 1979, Bambi won an award for always having great quality. Over time, the company grew. It expanded to different parts of former Yugoslavia.
In 1968, Bambi began making the popular Plazma biscuit. It quickly became one of their best-selling items. In 1990, Bambi also started making "Grandma's cookie" (Bakin kolač). This was a type of waffle, but it is no longer made. In 1997, Bambi was the first company in Serbia to get an international quality certificate. This certificate is called ISO 9001. It shows they have high standards for food quality.
In 2004, Bambi joined the Danube Foods Group. This group was managed by Salford Investment Fund. In 2015, Salford Investment Fund sold Bambi. The new owner was Mid Europa Partners. Since 2015, Mid Europa Partners' companies in Serbia are managed by "Moji Brendovi". These companies include Bambi, Knjaz Miloš, and Imlek.
In 2017, Bambi updated its logo. They also introduced many new products. By 2018, Bambi was one of the biggest food companies in Serbia. On February 18, 2019, Coca-Cola HBC announced they would buy Bambi. The deal was worth €260 million.
