Plectrum facts for kids
A plectrum (say: PLEK-trum) is a small tool used to play musical instruments that have strings. You might know it better as a pick. When you hold a pick and use it to pluck a string, it makes a clear, often "twangy" sound. It's like giving the string a little tap to make it vibrate and create music!
Many popular instruments use picks. These include the guitar, the lute, and the mandolin. Even the old-fashioned harpsichord uses something similar. Its strings are plucked by special parts called "jacks" when you press a key. So, whether it's a guitar pick or a harpsichord jack, these little tools help bring music to life!
