Plou is a small town in Spain. It is located in the Province of Teruel, which is part of the Aragon region. In 2018, about 43 people lived there.
Plou is also known for a special plant. An extinct plant genus called Ploufolia was found here. It was named after the town where it was discovered. The name "Plou" is also a common family name for people in this area.
Life in Plou
In 2021, Plou had 50 people officially registered as living there. However, only 24 people lived in the town all year round. This included two children who went to school in a nearby town called Montalbán.
Why the Town Got Smaller
Plou's population started to get smaller in the 1960s. This happened when a special railway line closed down. This railway used to carry coal from Utrillas to Zaragoza. When the railway closed, many people moved away. They went to bigger cities like Zaragoza and Barcelona to find work.
