Plummer E. Lott (born (1945-12-11)December 11, 1945) is a retired American professional basketball player. After his basketball career, he became a judge, serving as a New York Supreme Court justice.

Plummer Lott was born in Mississippi. He was a tall basketball player, standing 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 meters) and weighing 210 pounds (95 kg). He played as a small forward. His career in the NBA was short, playing for the Seattle SuperSonics from 1967 to 1969. Before joining the NBA, he was a star player at Seattle University. The SuperSonics, a new team at the time, chose him in the fifth round of the 1967 NBA draft.

Plummer Lott's Career as a Judge

After his time in the NBA, Plummer Lott decided to study law. He went to the University of Washington School of Law and finished his studies in 1974.

Becoming a Judge

For several years, Lott worked as a lawyer in New York City. In 1991, he was chosen to be a judge for the New York City Criminal Court. This was a big step in his legal career.

In 1995, he was elected to become a judge on the New York State Supreme Court. This is a very important court in New York. From 1996 until 2009, Judge Lott worked in the Criminal Branch of the Supreme Court in Brooklyn. He was in charge of many important legal cases.

Famous Cases and Appointments

One of the cases Judge Lott oversaw was quite famous. It involved a person who pretended to be the son of a well-known actor, Sidney Poitier. This interesting case later inspired a play called Six Degrees of Separation, and a 1994 movie based on the play.

In March 2009, the Governor of New York, David Paterson, gave Judge Lott an even higher position. He was appointed as a justice of the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court. This court hears appeals from decisions made in lower courts. Judge Lott worked in the Second Department of this court, which is also located in Brooklyn.
