What's in a Name?
The name "Poa Island" comes from a type of grass called Poa. The U.S. Bureau of Fisheries gave the island this name in 1888.
Before that, in 1852, a person named Captain Tebenkov called it "Ostrov Tumannyi." This name is Russian and means "foggy island," which might tell us something about the weather there!
