Poe is a small community in Indiana, a state in the United States. It is located in Allen County, within Marion Township. Poe is not an official city or town, but a small settlement. It is often linked with the nearby community of Hoagland. Poe covers an area of about two city blocks.

The History of Poe
Poe was not always called Poe. Its first name was Williamsport. This name honored William Essig, who owned land there. However, the United States postal service did not allow this name. This was because another post office in Indiana already had a similar name. So, the name was changed to Poe.

Poe is found at these coordinates: 40°56′09″N 85°05′13″W / 40.93583°N 85.08694°W. It has a small downtown area. In 1995, a local resident said that Poe's downtown was much quieter than it used to be.
Important Services in Poe
Poe has a local fire department. Its building moved to new land in the 1960s. This land was given by a person living in the area.
A post office opened in Poe in 1856. It stayed open until 1917. Today, the Fort Wayne, Indiana post office handles mail for Poe. In 1956, the Poe Southwestern Telephone Association sold shares. One share of capital stock cost $25.

Religious Life in Poe
Poe and Hoagland share a Methodist church. This church is called Hope United Methodist Church. It is located just outside the Hoagland area. Before 1995, there were two separate churches. These were Poe (Williamsport) United Methodist Church and Hoagland United Methodist Church. They merged to form Hope United Methodist Church. The old Poe church building was planned to become a home.

Poe Days is a yearly event. This celebration helps raise money for the local fire department.
