Polk is known for the Polk State Center. This special facility opened in 1897. It was created to help people who needed extra support with their learning and daily lives. In 2019, the state of Pennsylvania decided to close the center. However, many families and local residents disagreed with this plan. They took legal action to try and keep the facility open.
