Pompeyo Ezequiel Márquez Millán (born May 28, 1922 – died June 21, 2017) was an important Venezuelan politician and journalist. He was known for his long career in politics. He helped start a political party called Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS). He was also a strong voice against the government of the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez.

Early Life and Political Beginnings

Pompeyo Márquez was born in Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela. From a young age, he was interested in politics. He became involved in different political groups. In the 1960s, he was part of a movement that sought big changes in society.

Public Service and Government Roles

In the 1980s, Pompeyo Márquez played a key role in Venezuela's government. He was a member of the Comisión para la Reforma del Estado (COPRE). This group worked on making changes to how the government operated.

Border Committee Work

In 1989, President Carlos Andrés Pérez asked him to join a special group. This group was called the Presidential Committee for Colombian-Venezuelan Border Issues (COPAF). Their job was to deal with important matters along the border between Venezuela and Colombia. Ramón José Velásquez led this committee.

Minister of Borders

Later, under the government of President Rafael Caldera, Pompeyo Márquez became the Minister of Borders. This meant he was in charge of all issues related to Venezuela's borders. It was a very important job for the country.

Later Years and Legacy

Pompeyo Márquez continued to be an active voice in Venezuelan politics. He was known for his strong opinions and dedication. He passed away in Caracas, Venezuela, on June 21, 2017. He was 95 years old. His long life was spent working for his country.
