Where and When Does it Happen?
The Ponderosa Stomp started in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2002. It usually takes place in New Orleans every September. In the past, it was held in late April or early May.
The festival has moved to different places over the years. The very first one was at the Fine Arts Center in New Orleans. Later, it moved to the Mid City Rock n' Bowl. In 2006, it temporarily moved to Memphis, Tennessee. This was because of the effects of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. The festival returned to New Orleans the next year. It was held at the House of Blues in the French Quarter. Since 2021, the festival has been held at the Howlin' Wolf in New Orleans. The festival took a break from 2019 to 2020.
The Story Behind the Name

Who Organizes the Festival?
The Ponderosa Stomp is organized by the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation. This group is also known as the Mystic Knights of the Mau Mau. It is a non-profit organization. This means they don't make money for themselves. Instead, they use their funds to support their mission.
The foundation works to preserve and share the history of American roots music. They do many things besides the main concert event. For example, they create music education programs. These programs are for public schools and museums. They help young people learn about the rich history of American music.
