Poniatowski is a small, unincorporated community in Marathon County, Wisconsin, United States. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but is part of a larger town or county. Poniatowski is located within the town of Rietbrock.

One cool fact about Poniatowski is its special location. It's less than a mile away from a unique spot on Earth called the 45°N, 90°W point. This means it's halfway between the Equator and the North Pole (45° North latitude) and also a quarter of the way around the world from the Prime Meridian (90° West longitude).

The community is most likely named after the Poniatowski family, a famous Polish royal family.

Polish Roots in Poniatowski

Poniatowski is thought to be one of the few "undiscovered" Polish communities in the United States. This is because a group of Polish settlers started their village here in 1879. They named it after a brave Polish leader and general named Józef Poniatowski. This shows the strong connection the community has to its Polish heritage.
