A Look Back in Time
This chapel was built a long time ago, in 1834. It was originally known as a Wesleyan Methodist chapel. It has been a place of worship for nearly 200 years.
What the Chapel Looks Like
Outside the Chapel
Poole Methodist Chapel is a small building. It is made from red bricks and has a roof covered in slate tiles. The roof is shaped like a pyramid, which is called a hipped roof.
The front of the chapel has three sections. The main door is in the middle. It has a cool design that looks like old Gothic buildings. Above the door, there's a special rounded window called a fanlight. It has a board inside with seven dagger shapes.
Above the door, there's also a curved stone decoration called a hood mould. You can also see a lamp and a special oval sign. This sign says "Wesleyan Methodist Chapel" and the year "1834". On each side of the door, there are tall, arched windows. These windows have a special pattern called Y-tracery. The bricks under the roof form a decorative pattern, like teeth, called dentils.
Inside the Chapel
Inside the chapel, you will find a wooden reading desk. It stands on a decorative base. On each side of the desk, there are three steps with railings and posts.
Behind the reading desk is a wooden screen called a reredos. It has panels, and the middle one is wider and has a rounded top. This screen is decorated with pretty designs like flowers and garlands. The chapel also has a communion table with rails around it. You can also see an old-fashioned organ that uses foot pedals.
