The Popelogan River is a river in New Brunswick, Canada. It flows into the Upsalquitch River. This river runs through a place called Addington Parish in Restigouche County.
As the Popelogan River flows south, it goes through a valley. This valley gets deeper as it moves through the mountains. The river has smaller streams that join it. These are called tributaries. Two important ones are Gordon Brook and the "Lake Popelogan Branch." This branch gets its water from Popelogan Lake. There's also a forest road near the top part of the river, starting from Popelogan Depot.
Where the Popelogan River Flows
The Popelogan River starts in a forested area. This area is on the west side of White Meadows in Addington Parish. The very beginning of the river is about 0.7 kilometers (0.4 miles) west of the border of Balmoral Parish.
The river's source is:
- About 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) northeast of where the Popelogan River joins another river.
- About 21 kilometers (13 miles) southeast of where the Upsalquitch River joins another river.
- About 18.6 kilometers (11.6 miles) south of the bridge in Campbellton, New Brunswick. This bridge crosses the Restigouche River.
The River's Journey
The Popelogan River flows for about 28.7 kilometers (17.8 miles). Here's how it travels:
- It flows southwest for 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles). This takes it to the edge of Balmoral Parish.
- Then, it goes south for 0.7 kilometers (0.4 miles) through Balmoral Parish. It makes a small turn to the east.
- Next, it flows southwest for 4.3 kilometers (2.7 miles) back into Addington Parish. Here, a small stream joins it from the southwest.
- It continues south for 1.3 kilometers (0.8 miles). At this point, the "Branch Lake Popelogan" joins it from the east.
- The river then flows southwest for 6.0 kilometers (3.7 miles). Arsenault Brook joins it from the southeast.
- It turns north for 5.1 kilometers (3.2 miles). Petteller Gulch joins it from the north.
- Finally, it flows south for 10.0 kilometers (6.2 miles) until it reaches its end.
Where the River Ends
The Popelogan River empties into the east bank of the Upsalquitch River. This happens in an area known as Crooked Rapids.
The end of the Popelogan River is located:
- About 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) southeast of where the Upsalquitch River ends.
- About 35.9 kilometers (22.3 miles) south of the Campbellton, New Brunswick bridge. This bridge crosses the Restigouche River.
