A Look Back in Time: Poqomam History
Long ago, before the Spanish arrived, the Poqomam people had a strong kingdom. Their main city was called Chinautla Viejo. This was their capital city.
Some Poqomam groups moved east, into what is now El Salvador. However, around the 11th century, another group called the Pipil people arrived. The Pipil people moved into these areas. This caused many Poqomam people to move away or blend with other groups. Only a few Poqomam families remained in El Salvador.
